Bio
  • 30 years of experience in drug discovery and development in a range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, inflammation, central nervous system, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
  • In 2008, he founded and is the member of the Board of Directors of Sphaera Pharma, an integrated drug discovery and development organization.
  • Previously he was the Vice President at Johnson & Johnson/Scios Inc., where he helped build the small molecule drug discovery program.
  • Earlier, he served in positions of increasing responsibility at Bristol-Myers Squibb and Schering-Plough and is a co-inventor of the marketed drugs Zetia® (ezetimibe) and Vytorin® (ezetimibe/simvastatin). He is the recipient of the 2005 National Inventor of the Year Award, the American Chemical Society’s 2004 Heroes of Chemistry Award.
  • Senior Research Fellow in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of California, Davis, and was as a Trustee on the UC Davis Foundation Board.
  • He has helped organize and support the R. Bryan Miller Symposium at UC Davis for the last 20 years and helped in the creation of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry program.
  • He is a co-author of more than 70 publications and presentations, and a co-inventor of over 100 issued and applied patents. He earned his Ph.D. in YEAR from the University of California, Davis, and completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and Cornell University.

  • His daughter Hallie is a current UC Davis sophomore.
